Director's Message
Welcome to Viola Public Library District
We are still working on our website to make it better, more attractive and easier for everyone to use. Bear with us as we learn this new technology.
If you haven't been to the library for awhile, then you will be amazed at the changes. Thanks to a generous donation from the Viola United Presbyterian Church, the library was able to purchase two new public access computers, a new computer for a computerized circulation system, and a new copier/printer/fax machine. We are very grateful for this donation.
There are some new faces with the familiar ones at the library. Pati Diaz has joined our staff as a part-time employee. Her main duty is as the Youth Coordinator for the library's Youth Advisory Council. The council was created through funds received from the Illinois State Library's Library Services and Technology Act grant award. The purpose of the council is to give area youth a voice in materials the library purchases - books, movies, and music.
A familiar face is Carol Whan who works part-time at the library checking out materials, helping with activities, and whatever jobs need done. It's good to have her here with her years of experience.
Pati has also taken on the job of teaching adult computer classes. While I enjoyed teaching the classes, there just isn't enough hours in my day to do everything I'd love to do with everyone who comes in. Pati has been a great teacher. Classes are almost finished and new ones will not be scheduled until fall.
We have held our first quilt class with Betty Carlson and Mary McMeekan teaching the class. Six people learned how to cut and piece a block and then hand-quilt it together.
These and more classes will resume in the fall - Summer is just too busy at the library to hold classes!! Stay tuned for more information on what's going on at your library.
